Spain trebles international tourists
Good news for holidaymakers and Spanish tourism businesses after the decimation caused by covid-19 in the last 20 months.
The late summer travel rule changes and vaccination programme have resulted in a large upturn in tourist numbers in August 2021 as Spain trebles international tourists.
A report in Murcia today this week has published some healthy numbers from Turespala.
Spain received over 5 million travellers from overseas airports in August – representing an increase of 172% from the same period the year before when international travel was all but halted and restrictions were again on the horizon.
Numbers are up from the 4.4 million visitors the month before in July.
Whilst a welcome uplift, overall numbers are still less than 50% of a normal season as experienced in 2019.
The Spanish vaccination programme has now reached almost 75% of the population, building confidence that travel may become easier and numbers may increase further.
