Increase in Costa del Sol tourism

A report has shown that Andalusia continues to grow in popularity, with an increase in Costa del Sol tourism for the first half of 2016.

From January to the end of June, Andalucia welcomed close to 8.4 million visitors.

That is 9.2% more than in the same period of 2015.

Leading the way was the Costa del Sol. In June 2,047,650 tourists spent at least a night in one of its many destinations.

More than 75% of total visitors were from overseas.

Latest figures show that foreign visitors have spent an astounding €63 billion in Spain during the first eleven months of 2015.

Across the whole of Spain in 2015, a staggering €63 was spent by foreign tourists (National Statistics Institute INE) with over 20% coming from British tourists.

Andalucia outdid the national average with €9.8 billion spent up until the end of November 2015.

Costa del Sol tourism is not solely boosted by visitors from within Europe however. Increasingly countries such as China, Japan, the USA, Russia and the Middle East nations come. They are particularly attracted to Marbella as the leading destinations for luxury goods and services in Spain.

in 2015 Marbella boasted an impressive €1.5 billion turnover in the town’s high end shops and restaurants last year. This accounts for a quarter of the total luxury market in Spain, placing Marbella ahead of Madrid and just behind Barcelona in luxury turnover.
